Health Protection Compliance Service : A TRICK Service for Environmental and Health Safety

The textile industry is considered one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution. The manufacturing of a simple t-shirt or a pair of jeans requires a high number of processes where various chemicals are used, which can be hazardous for health and the environment and may accumulate through the textile stream. Indeed, several hazardous chemicals can remain in clothing as minor contaminants (auxiliary chemicals necessary to textile processing, as well as unreacted molecules and impurities) or may be intentionally added to impart specific functional properties.

Textile supply chains are long, complex, and fragmented. The flow of useful information about materials and processes along the supply chain, from producer to consumer, is drastically reduced, leading to health and environmental issues and greenwashing.  This makes the control of health and environmental risks very problematic, and the control of chemical risks in post-consumer waste is an even more challenging issue. Traceability linked to sustainability certifications can be the answer to these challenges. For this reason, the Health Protection Compliance Service has been developed.

This service is aimed at collecting data on chemicals used in each manufacturing stage. The data collection will be able to support different sustainability certifications (ecolabels) or sustainability programs and the data will be secured in the blockchain, providing traceability and reliability. The Health Protection Service will also deal with mandatory regulations that are currently self-declared (i.e., REACH) and support the adoption of the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
